PM could overturn CRTC's Internet usage decision

More than 350,000 people have signed an online petition

OTTAWA (NEWS1130) - The federal government is expected to overturn a recent CRTC ruling that's outraged hundreds of thousands of people across the country.

The ruling in question would allow major Internet service providers to limit how much data consumers can download, which would likely lead to higher internet rates.

People have been taking to YouTube to express their anger.

One man argues, "It's idiotic, really. because what you're gonna see is... people just stop watching videos on YouTube because it's gonna start costing them. The reason I go on YouTube so much and do videos for it is 'cause I know that it's free, and I'm not being charged."

They're also signing an online petition at openmedia.ca. So far, more than 350,000 people have signed it.

Industry Minister Tony Clement  has tweeted and confirmed the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission ``must go back to the drawing board'' on the issue.
