YVR to contribute money to low-income food program

Airport authority announces $100,000 donation

RICHMOND (NEWS1130) - YVR employees pushed shopping carts full of groceries instead of baggage carts on Tuesday to announce a partnership with Quest Food Exchange.

Anne Murray with YVR says it was a great idea to put the airport together with a program that diverts food to people in need.

"There are 23,000 people who work at the airport and millions of passengers who use the airport every year and so because of that, it's like a small city. Partnering with Quest and their approach to redistributing food to people in need really made sense for us," she explains.

Quest operates three low-cost grocery stores offering food to social service agencies and their clients for a fraction of the retail cost.

The airport authority will donate $100,000 to Quest over the next two years.
