WEST VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Olympic organizers have now gone to 'Plan C' at Cypress Mountain due to a lack of snow at the freestyle skiing and snowboard-cross venue. VANOC now plans to truck in snow they've been stockpiling at higher elevations, and they'll be using straw and wood to build the courses--then dumping the snow over that.
VANOC says the latest weather forecast from their meteorology team suggests there won't be any new snow falling, and it won't be consistantly cold enough to make snow in time for the Games. VANOC believes there is enough snow already stockpiled on the mountain to layer the course. They'll use helicopters, snow cats and trucks to transfer it to the event sites.
Mild temperatures and heavy rains earlier this month forced Cypress Mountain to close their alpine operations ahead of schedule.
