VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - It's the latest way to market your company and consumers are able to save more than a few bucks. Group coupons are an online phenomenon taking off.
There are well known sites like Groupon but BCIT's Rebecca Coleman says there is actually somewhere in the range of 500 others offering incredible deals.
"I think for a lot of businesses it has become a really great way of marketing and particularly if you're a new business or if you want to introduce your business to a new market."
The deals are really out there. The minimum amount of discount you will see is around half price and that includes things like spa days, restaurant gift certificates and clothes.
Coleman thinks it's a great way to try something new. "Maybe they'd say: 'I'd like to try that but it's kind of expensive, I don't know if I should invest the money in it.' So even if I hate it, at least I've only paid half price for it."
The success of the websites is also partly due to spreading via social media networks.
