RICHMOND (NEWS1130) - It will be a while before a cause is pinpointed for yesterday's fire at a strip mall on Voyageur Way in Richmond.
Deputy Fire Chief Tim Wilkinson says crews were there for 13 hours. "There are 12 businesses and of the 12, nine of them were saved. Three have been severely damaged, probably to the extent where they won't be able to use that piece of the building again."
He adds it took two hours to extinguish the fire, but they couldn't enter the structure because it was unstable. "Final extinguishment wasn't until we were able to de-construct some of the building, make it safe, and put the fire out."
Investigators will be sifting through debris at the mall on Monday to figure out what may have sparked the flames.
No one was hurt.
