PRINCE GEORGE (NEWS1130) - Come to Prince George, because the housing is cheap and there are lots of jobs. The northern city is trying to lure workers from the Lower Mainland.
The man leading the sales pitch is Tim McEwan with
Initiatives Prince George. "Our housing prices average about $240,000 for a bungalow, versus $1.5 million on the west side of Vancouver," he points out.
He says they need workers to fill the jobs created by rebounds in forestry and mining.
Bank of Montreal chief economist Sherry Cooper says Prince George's unemployment rate is about three per cent lower than the rest of BC's. "There isn't a boom yet, but the prospects are very good," she feels.
The university has also created lots of job opportunities.
