Cooking with food bank ingredients

The event is part of the food bank's spring food drive

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Imagine having to cook a dish with baby formula, pasta, canned meat and peanut butter. Three chefs will take on that challenge Monday as part of a spring food drive for Greater Vancouver Food Bank.

Quang Dang, the executive chef at the Metropolitan Hotel, is looking forward to the challenge. "Canned fish or meat, there is always lots of fun that can be had with that. If they give [us] canned crab meat, tuna or salmon, you can make a salmon cake or a fish cake. But if they give us SPAM, I'm not sure where we're going to go with that."

He says the ingredients are based on items the food bank needs. The chefs will have 30 minutes to show off their creativity.
