VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - There's been a last minute reprieve for one of Vancouver's four temporary homeless shelters. The provincial government will continue to fund the New Fountain shelter, allowing it to stay open for another two months.
The funding was initially set to run out on April 30th.
As for the three other shelters which will close that day, Vancouver City Councillor Kerry Jang says the work continues to find spaces for people using those facilities.
"Over the last couple of years, of course, we've gone through this procedure before. People who are using the winter shelters have been moved over to interim or more permanent housing, and as I understand it, it's going well."
The extension for New Fountain will buy the province some time until a number of permanent housing projects can be completed.
