VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - About fifteen thousand people took party in today's 40th annual BMO Vancouver Marathon.  The event was special for one first time runner, who raised roughly $20,000 for the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation.

Charlie Bewley is best known for his role as a vampire in the Twilight movie series.  In February, his close friend Jocelyn Clarke died from a rare form of lung cancer at the age of 36.

She received treatment at the hospital's oncology clinic and that inspired him to run in her memory. "She was very sick. It spread like wildfire. She passed away on Valentine's Day this year. I first met her on a bus coming from an audition and she was glowing... a spark of energy. It's just a real shame that she's gone so quick."

Clarke was a stunt woman who doubled for Dakota Fanning in two of the Twilight movies.

This year's winner was Benard Onsare with a time of 2:19:59 and a Kelowna woman crossed the finish line at 2:43:00.
