Rescue group has warning over unwanted pets

All sorts of animals get abandoned

Shane Bigham Feb 03, 2010 09:24:02 AM

BURNABY (NEWS1130) - A Lower Mainland animal rescue group says people are dumping their unwanted pets outdoors.

The Small Animal Rescue Society of B.C. says it gets about 5-to-7 calls in a typical week.  Last Friday, the group says it got a call about abandoned guinea pigs left to die behind the Home Depot in Burnaby. One of the animals gave birth after it was rescued, but all the babies died.  The Society is run entirely by volunteers.  They are asking pet owners to take responsibility for their animals. If you can't care for your pets anymore, the group is says you should at least take them to a group like the SPCA.
