VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - What do the Canucks need to do to get over their disastrous road trip in Boston?
News1130 spoke with a sports psychologist this morning to find out.
Fans are on edge but the team can't be, says
Dr. Saul Miller, who seems to agree with what Roberto Luongo has been saying: You have to leave the past behind you.
"I think when you play at the level of the NHL and you're playing in these Stanley Cup playoffs, you certainly have to have that ability to tune out what happened... You have to have a short memory for that."
He also says the
Canucks need to play their own game. "You have to have that ability to tune into or focus on you at your best -- period. [That's] regardless of where you are, regardless of what happened in the last game."
Miller adds the team has to have discipline, and not get caught up in the nonsense -- and of all that stuff that's been going on after the whistle. "When I'm working with athletes, what we're [always] going back to is basics and fundamentals".
Dr. Miller has been a consultant for teams in the NHL (including the Canucks), MLB, NBA, CFL, and other leagues for 25 years.
