Huge crowds greet Olympic Torch in Langley

LANGLEY (NEWS1130) - It was Langley's chance with the Olympic Torch Monday afternoon, as the torch weaves its way through the Lower Mainland.  It started in the Fraser Valley, went through Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows, and is visiting Surrey as well with just four days to go before the Opening Ceremonies.

If enthusiasm was an Olympic event, then Langley would receive a gold medal.  The torch was given a warm welcome as it was run through the streets--finally reaching the centre stage.  There were Canadian flags waving everywhere, and most people were wearing Olympic gear, or red clothing to support Canadian athletes.  There were also performances by singers, dancers and gymnasts.

One woman says watching her youngest son run with the torch through Walnut Grove was the proudest moment of her 37 years in Canada.  Many schools let their children out of school today to help greet the torch.  That added to the enthusiasm, and decibel level of the crowds.
