VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Many workers are feeling a relatively stronger level of job security these days, but in a post-recession economy, many companies are still cutting back to trim costs.
David Litherland with
Summit Search Group BC says recently RIM cut more than 2,000 jobs, while Cisco, Lockheed Martin, and Borders lost 23,000 positions.
He says there are steps you can take to create career security. "Be the best employee possible and add value to the organization. Continue to be assertive in the organization, in terms of being visible, being vocal."
Litherland explains networking is one of the best things you can do when you're laid off. "There is no question that's going to help you today in your career, but then again at the same time if you were to be an individual who is now looking for work, it's networking that's going to assist you."
