VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - When you think karaoke, it's usually all about the drunk,
off-key guy belting out "My Way." Well, move over Sinatra-wannabes, here comes Surrey's Jerrica Santos.
She's the
Canadian Karaoke Grand Champion, off to Killarney, Ireland to represent Canada at the World Karaoke Championships, September 8th-10th.
"It's more like an American Idol style competition," says Santos. "You compete in heats. It's females against females and males against males and we're competing against 26 other countries. They just keep eliminating until we get to the finals."
She'll be performing 'Hopelessly Devoted to You' by Olivia Newton-John, 'Crazy' by Gnarls Barkley and 'Who You Are' by Jessie J.
But it's not all about the karaoke, Santos is an accomplished performer and was a competitor on the second season of Canadian Idol. "It's all about the singing and performing, for sure. This is another opportunity for me to get noticed. I'm an R&B artist and I'm also part of the Metropolis Glee Club. We're an acapella group."
The
Glee Club performed at the PNE on opening weekend and will be at Metrotown this week, springing up as a flash mob in the crowds. Top prize at the Karaoke World Championships is cash and a recording contract.
