Workopolis pushes working from home

Say it claims the environment and employers

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Is it time for Canada to introduce a "National Work From Home Day"?  We told you earlier this week, Canadians are spending more and more time in the car, and one of the country's leading job-search firms is pushing for a day of telecommuting.

Peter Harris with Workopolis says there are many environmental and economic benefits and it could also give employers a competitive edge.

"Companies that offer flexible scheduling and more work-life balance and the opportunity or the chance to have an easier time recruiting and retaining top talent."

"They like that empowerment of choosing where and when they can get their best work done, having an employer who has the confidence in you to know that you're going to get the job done without having to have you in the office 9 a.m. to 5 p.m."

In a recent survey by the company commuters said not wasting time in the car every day would give them more time for household chores, spending time with family and friends and sleeping.

It also found more people would put more time into their job if they didn't have to worry about commuting.
