NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS1130) - New Westminster says it wants to keep its events safe and family-friendly.
The City has ordered a review into its policy for special events after a biker gang was invited to a festival in July. Councillors met this week for the first time since last month's
12th Street Music Festival, where the Hells Angels had set up a booth to sell t-shirts and other items.
Councillor
Bill Harper says staff has been ordered to review the city's policy on street festivals and parades:
"We need to do something in terms of making sure that the festivals and events in the city have some guidelines around [the] appropriateness of people who set up booths or have activities on the site because those sites are city streets."
Harper says this is the first time he can remember the
Hells Angels took part in an event like this and he feels their presence is a public safety issue.
