Protesters shout, shove, chant and boo outside Cheney event

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Protesters shoved arriving guests and chanted "Arrest Dick Cheney" outside the Vancouver Club downtown this evening, where former US Vice President Dick Cheney was scheduled to speak.

Cheney is in town promoting "In My Time: A Personal and Political Memoir," in which he defends waterboarding and other coercive tactics classified as torture under international law.

About a dozen Vancouver police officers guarded the sold-out private event, which was closed to media.

Many called the police hypocrites, saying they wonder if officers would stop them if the protesters started waterboarding someone.

"Cheney is a confessed war criminal for waterboarding and for Guantanamo Bay," one woman tells News1130.

The people who went inside were met with resounding boos.
