Facebook group wants new Vancouver community

They want to create Pinoytown in recognition of the Filipino community.

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - After last week's creation of Little Saigon on Kingsway, support is growing to recognize another Vancouver community.

A Facebook group now has over 1,000 supporters to create Pinoytown in recognition of the Filipino community.

COPE City Council candidate RJ Aquino supports the idea as another celebration of Vancouver's diversity.

"There are families that have been there a long time, businesses that have established themselves there and again recognize the fact that there is a large concentration of Filipino's in the area."

The group is calling for Fraser Street between Kingsway and 33rd to be renamed.

The word Pinoy is a colloquial term for a Filipino.
