VANCOUVER (NEW1130) - Disappointment for a transit bus driver badly beaten in February. Friday's sentencing hearing for the man who admitted to assaulting him has been delayed.
Charles Dixon, 54, has been preparing all week to hear what he hoped was the conclusion of the case. He's been left with brain damage, following the punch delivered by 21-year-old Del Louie.
Don MacLeod with the
Canadian Auto Workers Local 111 says the wait for justice has been difficult for Dixon. "The postponement just continues the emotional roller coaster that he's on. It's important that he park those feelings for while and do the best he can with his family and friends around him."
Dixon has not been cleared to return to work. "He has further surgeries slated into January of next year, so he's not out of the woods yet," MacLeod notes.
MacLeod says the sentencing delay has been caused by Louie acquiring a new lawyer. The hearing has been rescheduled to Feb. 7.
Louie pled guilty to punching Dixon, when Dixon asked him to board the bus through the front doors, instead of the back doors, while parked at Burnaby's Edmonds bus loop last February.
