VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - There's some labour peace at schools in BC. Although the deal is for support staff, there's hope it will lead to a new contract for teachers too.
The framework agreement reached yesterday with CUPE includes a clause covering wage increases. There's no pay hike for now, but the deal allows for renegotiation if the provincial wage freeze is lifted by the end of this school year.
The employer hopes a similar clause for teachers might any contract more palatable; that could lead to a break in the the impasse between the
BCTF and the
Public School Employers Association.
