ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) - An 18-year-old was sexually assaulted while out for a walk in Abbotsford a few days ago. The young woman was groped by a man near John Maclure Elementary at around 8:00 Sunday night.

Constable Ian MacDonald with Abbotsford Police says the man told her he had a weapon, stole some cash and tried to force her into a sex act.

"This incident is obviously very concerning from the standpoint of public safety," says MacDonald. "To have someone who attempted a sex assault and commited a robbery at large in our community. "

She fought him off and ran away.

MacDonald describes the man as "an indo-Canadian man in his 20s, thin build, short hair, wearing a baseball cap, black jacket and blue jeans."

Abbotsford Police officers and a K9 unit were unable to locate the suspect when they were called minutes later.

Anyone with information about the suspect or the incident should contact the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
