VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - This past year has been one of adjustment in BC politics, as both major parties in the legislature chose new leaders. One independent MLA says
Adrian Dix and
Christy Clark both brought several changes.
Delta South's
Vicki Huntington argues Premier Clark is more involved in Question Period than her predecessor Gordon Campbell. "She's a very aggressive politician. She enjoys question period and that type of activity.
"You will even see her heckling which is unusual for a premier," she adds.
Still, Huntington believes the premier has faced challenges bringing her party together. "I think bringing Christy back into the fold after so many years outside has been hard on a number of [Liberals]. Her style is very, if not centrist in execution, at least centrist in public relations."
On the other side of the house, she says Adrian Dix and the NDP have been doing a lot of solid work from the opposition benches. "They're operating quite effectively in the house, I think, and I notice a fair change in their attitude toward each other and toward business in the house."
Huntington also believes the New Democrats have been doing some very good critic work on the family law act, as well as privacy and freedom of information issues.
