VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Don't expect the teachers' strike to end anytime soon.
Talks are expected to resume today, but the
BC Public School Employers' Association isn't too optimistic a deal is in the works. Melanie Joy is chair of the association and says after five months of negotiations, little has changed.
"The BCTF has, still, pretty much their beginning proposals on the table, asking for approximately $2 billion worth of compensation increases," she explains.
"Until there's some... willingness to actually have that conversation on the table, I think that we're going to stay far apart," she adds.
Joy doesn't expect anything will change until the
BC Teachers' Federation eases up on its demands.
In an effort to put pressure on the employer, teachers have been refusing all administrative duties -- including doing report cards and supervising sports teams -- since September.
