Foodie Friday looks at healthy eats on a budget

Vietnamese sandwiches are among Vancouver's yummiest secrets

Rob Freeman Jan 06, 2012 20:22:00 PM
VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The decadence of the holiday season can leave you feeling bloated and broke!

A great way for a quick detox is freshly squeezed juice or a smoothie.

"A good recommendation is The Juice Truck," says Mijune Pak with Follow Me Foodie. "That's a food cart that's located in Gastown, and what they're known for are pressed juices and a lot of fresh fruit smoothies."

Try the strawberry with coconut meat, coconut milk, banana, raw cocoa nibs, vanilla and agave, she says.

Another option that's easy on your wallet is the banh mi, or Vietnamese sandwich, which can be customized with either chicken or pork.

"Ba Le Deli & Bakery has a couple locations: One's on Kingsway, one's on Main Street," says Pak. "And also Au Petit Cafe. Those are the two most popular places and the best banh mis you're going to get in the city."

So no matter your resolutions, there are delicious and affordable ways to recover from holiday indulgence!
