Mounties looking for suspect who tried to snatch 2-year-old

Suspect picked up child while dad had back turned

LANGLEY (NEWS1130) - Langley Mounties are searching for a man who tried to snatch a two-year-old boy from a playground Monday morning.

It happened around 9 a.m. near 206th Street and Douglas Crescent.

The dad was putting away his son's bike helmet and when he turned around, he saw that a man had picked up his kid.

Cpl. Holly Marks says the father did everything right.

"The father turned around and yelled at him quite loudly," Marks said. "The suspect immediately dropped the child and ran from the park."

The dad chased the man for a while and saw him get into a dark green van or SUV with a tinted rear window.

The van headed south on 206th Street.

"The child is safe and unharmed and probably young enough that he won't remember this happened to him," Marks said.  "I will say that the father is quite shaken up."

The suspect is described as possibly East Indian or Hispanic, average build to slightly husky, five feet nine inches to five feet eleven inches with dark brown hair, wearing a white hat and a dark shirt.

Anyone with information is asked to call Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200.
