VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Canada's best of the best will gather in Kelowna for the
Gold Medal Plates culinary championship Feb. 10 and 11.
Qualifying competitions were held in cities across the country and Canada's top chefs will compete for the top prize. An Iron Chef winner will represent Vancouver.
"We have
Rob Feenie from the Cactus Club," says Cassandra Anderton from
Good Life Vancouver. "He took the gold at the Vancouver competition. He did a dish of rabbit leg confit with ragout of veal tongue and porcini mushrooms. It was just delightful!"
There are three parts to the competition at the championship. In the first part, the chefs will be given a mystery bottle of wine and then will have to go on a scavenger hunt around Kelowna to put together a pairing dish. The second part involves a black box competition featuring surprise ingredients and in the third and final event the chefs will prepare their signature dishes.
Also going on this weekend are the
BC Chinese Chefs Competition at the Vancouver Convention Centre, and
Feast Van, raising money for the
Vancouver Inner City Backpack Program.
