SURREY (NEWS1130) - After weeks of calm, we now have two shootings to tell you about which happened less than a day apart. The casings were being counted early Friday morning on 88th Avenue in Surrey just hours after a man was hit in the leg in Burnaby.
No one was hurt in the early morning shooting. Only shell casings and bullet holes in a house were found. Even after a lull that lasted several weeks, this man says it's not unusual to hear gunshots in this area. Around three this morning, he happened to be sitting out front of his house in his truck with his buddy when police were investigating the latest shooting nearby. He says he was quickly questioned by investigators before he was told he was free to go. The man says police told him there were four gunshots.
It was a very different story less than 12 hours earlier in Burnaby at the busy Value Village. As News1130 first told you, a man shot in the leg stumbled into the store in search of help. Police believe he was hit in a drive-by shooting.
It was a frightening incident for customers and staff at the Value Village. One witness told News1130 the man collapsed near the cash register inside the store. "I saw the guy laying down on his back with paramedics attending to him, he was obviously in distress but I hadn't heard any sound from him. One of his pants was pulled up and I saw lots of blood streaming down his left leg." There's no word on whether the bullet was meant for him.
RCMP say it's still too early to say if the shooting is gang related, but say they have no suspects in custody. The name of the victim hasn't been released, but he is expected to survive. A silver Mercedes Sedan towed from the parking lot is related to the investigation.
Burnaby RCMP are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or may have any information to contact the Burnaby RCMP at 604-294-7922 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
