WEST VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Police Complaint Commissioner Stan Lowe says a public hearing is needed to examine the actions of an off-duty West Vancouver police constable. A date for the hearing has not been set -- but its findings could cost Constable Griffin Gillan his job.
The public hearing will examine what happened the night newspaper delivery man Firoz Khan was attacked in downtown Vancouver.
A disciplinary hearing held last fall ordered Gillan reduced to a probationary constable and suspended without pay for 10 days but the upcoming investigation will consider several issues, including if Gillan is fit to act as a police officer.
