Super Bowl means super business

Restaurants gearing up for big day Sunday

Andrew Hopkins Feb 04, 2012 13:32:33 PM
VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The Super Bowl should result in some super profits for BC bars and restaurants.

People in the business are expecting similar crowds on Sunday to what they see for the Stanley Cup.

Ian Tostenson with the BC Restaurant and Food Services Association says the NFL championship makes for one of the busiest days of the year.

He expects places with TVs will be packed all day, outdrawing most other sporting events. "Super Bowl is actually bigger than the Grey Cup, if the Grey Cup isn't in Vancouver, so I think you're up there with Stanley. In fact, you probably could be bigger than the Stanley Cup.  It's huge."

Tostenson says that translates into some big numbers. "I was talking to a friend of mine who owns Luke's Bar and Grill on Granville Street.   He expects his business to be up about 200 per cent."

That's over a typical Sunday.
