VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Need help finding the nearest clinic or pharmacy? There's an app for that. The BC Health Services Locator is free on iTunes.
"Late at night, you need to find a walk-in clinic that's open, that information would be available on the app," said Health Minister Mike de Jong. "You've taken one of your kids to play soccer in another community and something happens, and you want to find out where the health facilities are, the app will provide you with that information.
"The genesis of the idea came from some public servants who asked that very question, how do we use this technology to help people," the minister explained. "After work and on their lunch hours they put the idea together and developed it."
As a result, de Jong said development costs were very low, and maintaining the service shouldn't be very expensive either.
"It's really a practical way to take advantage of technology that more and more people are using," he said.
So far, the app is only available for iPhones, iPads, and iPods, but the province is working on ways to make it available for all mobile platforms.
