Sentencing for man who assaulted bus driver

Victim hopes judge hands down at least one year behind bars

Dan Burritt Feb 07, 2012 09:48:33 AM
VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - A bus driver who was viciously assaulted almost one year ago hopes his attacker gets at least a year in jail.  The 25-year veteran operator will be in Vancouver Provincial Court this afternoon where his attacker is set to be sentenced.

Charles Dixon says he cries every day about his drive into Edmonds Station on February 15th, 2011.

Twenty-one-year-old Del Louie boarded through the back door but Dixon asked him to go through the front doors three times.  Louie punched Dixon, breaking his orbital bone and causing brain damage.  "As soon as this young man nailed me below my right eye he bolted through the front doors."

Louie pleaded guilty to assault.

"I will be off work for one year and I figure that one year would really send a message to the people that think it's their god-given right to board a bus to physically assault bus drivers," says Dixon.

He says he wants to get back behind the wheel soon.
