Jamie Graham written up for leaving pistol under car seat

VicPD still searching for riot gear that has disappeared

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Vancouver's former top cop is in trouble again.

Jamie Graham has been given a written reprimand for neglect of duty. Graham, who is now police chief in Victoria, ordered a search of all police buildings and cars after a bunch of riot gear went missing last week.

As Graham was telling reporters about the missing stuff on Friday, officers were searching Graham's unmarked car.

"As a result of that search, our investigative team located my service pistol under the seat of my car in the secure underground parkade of VicPD," Graham said in a statement.  "I had left the pistol there during the period of time when I was taking part in a news conference for the missing equipment."

Victoria Mayor Dean Fortin, who is the Discipline Authority in this case, has given Graham a written reprimand for neglect of duty.

"Just as I expect every member of this department to take full responsibility for their actions, I take responsibility for this incident and I accept the Discipline Authority's findings," Graham said. "The last thing I want is for this inadvertent mistake to cast a shadow over the hard work that the men and women of VicPD do every day."

This is the fourth finding of misconduct against Graham.

He had two in Victoria and two when he was in Vancouver.

The VicPD is still looking for the shotgun, tear gas and bullet-proof vests that disappeared from inventory.
