VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The Paralympic torch is in Vancouver in preparation for Friday's Opening Ceremonies for the Paralympic Games. If you want to get into the spirit, we have all the details on where to see the torch, and how to be involved.
A 24-hour torch relay around Robson Square starts Thursday afternoon and organizer Suzanne Reeves says Team Canada goaltender Roberto Luongo of the Canucks is lighting the cauldron. "I'm sure that's going to draw a huge crowd. We're very proud! But then we've also got Sam Sullivan as well that evening and Chantal Petitclerc, an important person and figure in the Paralympic movement on the 12th, so we've got some really great torch bearers."
Hanging out at the Square will be as much fun as it was during the Olympics. The Robson Square ice rink will be open overnight during the 24-hour relay with a DJ spinning some skating tunes. The zip line re-opens March 12th giving those who couldn't wait in the hours-long line-ups during the Olympics. There is also no shortage of live entertainment and Paralympic ice sport demonstrations throughout the Games.
LiveCity Downtown returns for the Paralympics as well. You can expect family-friendly entertainment including big screen coverage of events, Canadian and international entertainment and live sports demos. That will be open from March 12 to March 14 and between March 18 and March 21.
