VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - It would keep up the momentum, it would be more efficient, and it would certainly send a message of inclusiveness. We're on the street test-driving an idea to combine the Olympics and Paralympics.
It's a push being made by the founder of the Paralympics, Robert Steadward. He says marrying the two Winter Games would allow the Paralympics to take advantage of the kind of public support we saw during the Olympics. It could also be more efficient for the Organizing Committee and help even more in integrating people with disabilities.
On the street, the idea has a lot of support from the people we're speaking with. "Even some of the athletes feel like they are a bit of an afterthought, after the Olympics. If they could incorporate it, it would probably make the whole thing longer."
It might mean the party would last even longer, without that two week break where the vibe inevitably cools off.
