Less talking, more doing say mayors wanting the Evergreen Line

Promises have failed to produce anything yet

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Put up or shut up. Local mayors want the province and the feds to pony up their share of cash to build the Evergreen Line.

The demand for senior levels of government to ante up comes after yesterday's meeting of TransLink's Mayors Council.

On Monday, Premier Gordon Campbell said construction on the long-delayed $1.4 billion dollar rapid transit line would begin next year, despite the fact there's still a funding gap of $400 million left to be resolved.

Transportation Minister Shirley Bond says ground will be broken on the project regardless if TransLink can pay for its share.
