VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Mayor Gregor Robertson had his brush with royalty today, greeting Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, who is here on a four day working visit for the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games.
The Mayor and VANOC welcomed him today at Coal Harbour as he was given a blue volunteer jacket, commemorative coin and an accreditation pass so even a prince can be allowed into the Games.
Tonight, His Royal Highness will also be honoured with a traditional aboriginal name and given a talking stick and a bentwood box during a dinner being held for our athletes.
Queen Elizabeth's youngest son will also present 100 local high schoolers with their gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards, tomorrow at Vancouver's Point Grey Secondary. The prince will be in Whistler for the last two days of his trip.
