VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Say goodbye to winter - what there was of it! We're on the street for a weather...and attitude check.
Yeah it was the warmest and driest Canadian winter on record, though we weren't exactly in a drought here on the west coast. And after snowmageddon the previous winter, everyone 'round here was ready... parkas, shovels, sand and snowtires... all of which went largely unused.
Not that anyone is complaining. "I quite enjoyed the summer... be it the winter... whatever. And I think the tourists probably did, too. Everything downtown with everyone partying after the gold medal hockey game in the sunshine. It was glorious! I think it was one of the best winters we've ever had."
For Metro Vancouver it was the warmest January ever, fantastic timing ahead of the Winter Olympics - which will now forever be known as Vancouver's spring games.
We sprung forward last weekend, now let's ask News1130 meteorologist Russ Lacate to look ahead at the season to come.
"Get ready for more warm air but maybe less rain than we're used to at this time of year. El Nino is weakening but it still remains the primarily global-scale weather maker. For the Pacific Northwest that translates into slightly lower than average rainfall and a continuation of the mild trend that we've already had for the past two months. "
