VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The 11th annual B.C. Arts and Culture Week starts Monday. Every year, more than 20,000 artists and community members participate in exhibitions and workshops.
For the adults, spend an Evening with the Artist on Friday taking place at Emelle's Catering in Vancouver. It's a free art show and sale event that showcases natural themes like landscapes and wildlife. Art lovers will get to munch on finger food and drinks. There will also be a chance to win two paintings. Any donations made to the event will go to Wildlife Federation.
In Burnaby there's an Arts Open House on Thursday at St. Francis de Sales School. All areas of the school will display student and professional art from the community. There will also be a 'make and take' art station as well as music.
And people will be Embracing the Arts in Surrey on Friday at Coast Meridian Elementary. Learn how to refine techniques in cartooning, Airbrushing and wildlife sketching.
In the mood to build something for park birds? On Thursday head to CRAB Park at Portside on Vancouver's waterfront on Burrard Inlet for the Community Building Bird Habitat. Join local artists for a hands on workshop to create woven sculptures for the Crab Park marsh Pond. They will then serve as perches and nesting locations for the birds. It may sound complicated but no experience is necessary!
Over in New Westminster, it's the Royal City Book Festival from Friday to Sunday at Royal City Centre Mall. Talk to local authors, view their books and even get your copy signed.
In Burnaby it's Swing into Spring: A celebration of the Arts and Literature at Gilmore, Thursday at Gilmore Community Elementary. The school will turn their gym into a student art gallery, as well as showcase students' musical talents involving guitars, singing and drums.
On Thursday you and the kids can join award winning storyteller and children's author Nan Gregory for some tales of myths and legends from across the world at Tecumseh Elementary in Vancouver. She will also discuss the writing process. Perfect for the aspiring writer.
In Burnaby head to Arts Alive 2010, starting on Thursday at the Burnaby Art Gallery. View student art from drawings and photographs, to sculptures and video.
And if rivers are more your thing, go to New Westminster for Fraser Through the Lens on Saturday at the Fraser River Discovery Centre. Join award winning nature photographer Rick Blacklaws for an intimate portrait of the Fraser River and a discussion about the techniques he uses in his book 'The Fraser River.'
