VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Your visits to Vancouver parks and beaches will soon be smoke-free.
The Vancouver Park Board has unanimously approved a smoking ban.
Only one out of a dozen speakers at Monday's meeting opposed the ban. Support for the motion was overwhelming.
Park Board Commissioner Constance Barnes admits enforcement will be an issue.
"I think that some smokers will do what they do when their dogs leave a nice little surprise for somebody. To be honest, they can be angry and they can be rude. I think this is a start," she says.
After a summer education phase, the ban kicks in September 1st.
