The Salvation Army served a whopping 26 per cent more Canadians last year over 2008, many of them well-educated and well-adjusted. Just throw in an unexpected curve like a marital problems or job loss.
As we speak with people around Vancouver, few seem fazed by the shocking stats. "It doesn't surprise me nowadays because um, there's less jobs and um, the future looks scary for a lot of people."
In Manitoba and Saskatchewan, 20 per cent of people asked say they have been homeless or close to it and here in B.C., 16 per cent say the same thing.
