RICHMOND (NEWS1130) - The SkyTrain through Richmond is trying to be more than just a grey concrete transportation corridor. The City is going out of its way to beautify the Canada Line.
You may have noticed large metal trellises along the bottom of the SkyTrain supports through Richmond. City urban design coordinator Brian Guzzi says they're among the many improvements Richmond and TransLink are doing to spruce up the Line. "We call them the green screens, the trellises that are around the columns, and I think there is somewhere in the order of 80 that have been treated similarly."
As well, back-lit art displays are being set up near the entrances to stations. "There is a public art program in the city that will feed art displays into these three separate art wraps along the street."
Guzzi says they have some special effect lighting underneath the guideway by Landsdowne Mall. He claims the City of Coquitlam has been checking out the artistic touches along Richmond's SkyTrain line to embellish the design of the Evergreen Line.
