VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Anti-HST campaigners say the provincial government's HST list is misleading the public. They say that list misses over 30 things you'll be paying more for when the tax kicks in July 1st. Fight HST is wondering why the province isn't including all of the services which will cost more under the HST. The group says things like catering, home inspections and painting services aren't on the official list, but will cost seven per cent more after July 1st.
Bill Vander Zalm, who is helping head up the group, is accusing the Liberal government of leaving things off the list deliberately. "This all just points out the shenanigans they are playing. They are deceitful and incompetent. The real "HST Hit List" can be found on our website at
www.fighthst.com. There are over 100 items where seven per cent more in HST will be applied than were previously under the PST. The government list has only 53 items, almost half the real number."
Vander Zalm says you'll also notice extra taxes on things like new homes and private sale cars. He says the plan to add what is being called "embedded PST" instead of HST on those items is "absolute trash." The former premier's petition against the tax now has enough signatures in 56 of B.C.'s 85 ridings with five weeks left to go in the campaign.
