NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - A group of parents angry about the closure of an elementary school is suing the North Vancouver School Board. Parents say the board broke some of its own policies.
The board voted to close the school last month because of budget issues and declining enrolment, but Heather Skuse with the Fromme School Society says policy wasn't followed. "They hadn't followed an administerial order that says they have to look at future enrolment trends and about alternate uses. We're also arguing that the process that they went through in their public consultation and in their closure process wasn't fair."
She explains the goal of the lawsuit isn't necessarily to keep Fromme open. "I absolutely would like to see the school not close; I don't know if that will be the result of this. I just know when they go to close the school the next time they should have to follow the rules."
Skuse says the group didn't want to sue but were left with no choice because the school board wouldn't meet with them.
