Long weekend weather not quite 'summer-like'

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Our condolences to anyone who decided to go camping or hiking in the mountains over the May long weekend--especially Sunday. Rain drenched hikers, and campers shivering in their tents, were left wondering--what happened to the unofficial start of summer?
The weather was slightly better in the city, but anything but warm. We asked a number of people if they felt 'jipped' by the relatively cool long weekend? Surprisingly, many didn't seem to mind, or at least were taking the weather in stride. "Not too hot, not too cold, I kinda like the weather the way it is." Another said it was "perfect". (Ed note: ?) And yet another said it was "typical Vancouver".
A cool, rainy May long weekend shouldn't be a surprise. David Phillips, climatologist with Environment Canada, says only one of the last 13 May long weekends has been dry. He says some of the complaints might be due to people getting their hopes and expectations too high for real summer weather this early in the year.
Phillips says "be patient"...summer weather is coming...eventually.
