VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - As people in Ontario wither in the late May heat and people in Alberta shovel their walks once again, we shake out the umbrella. We're out on a weather-check, on this last soggy day of May.
There are two sides to all stories, even the sloppy, messy, soggy one.
"I love it. I don't mind the rain. I'm in Vancouver, you have to get used to it" says one woman we're speaking with.
But her opinion is not shared by this man we're talking to, "[It is] terrible. I'm a Winnipeg boy. I would rather have snow than rain. If you want to live in B.C. you put up with the rain. At least you don't have to shovel it."
Love it or hate it, you can always find the sunny side, which may not mean sun itself. As we prepare to usher in June, we search for the silver lining in a forecast that predicts more wet, grey cloud.
You've heard the 'perceptions' of what our May weather was like. But what are the real stats?
News1130 meteorologist Russ Lacate has heard the complaints but are they right about May weather being brutal?
"Typically for the entire month of May it'll rain 13 times. But it has been wet on 15 days so far this month. I guess the worst of it was that 12 of them were in the past two weeks alone and that's what has made it feel like March instead of May. On the whole, your total rainfall amounts are just about 50mm and that is actually less than the 68mm we average in May. All the dreary cloud cover has kept temperatures one degree below normal as well."
