Lions using helmet radios to help quarterbacks call plays

Mike Hanafin / Ann Schmaltz Jun 08, 2010 15:27:12 PM
KAMLOOPS (NEWS1130) - There's a new technology twist at this year's BC Lions training camp in Kamloops.  After decades of using hand signals to feed plays to the quarterback, helmets are now equipped with new ear-pieces that allow the offensive coordinator to talk directly to the quarterback during games.

News1130's Ann Schmaltz is at Lions camp in Kamloops, and says "That was quite neat to see the technology...(offensive coordinator) Jacques Chapdelaine told us he was exposed to it back in 2007,  and that most of the teams in the CFL are going to be using the technology."

A similar radio system is already used in the NFL for quarterbacks and linebackers.

Two-a-days continue at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops.  Ann is filing daily reports to News1130.  You can also take a look at her blog.
