NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - If you think finishing the Grouse Grind is a challenge, try doing it 14 times in a row. That is exactly what North Vancouver realtor Sebastian Albrecht will attempt to do on Monday.
Albrecht became a bit of a local celebrity when he raised close to $10,000 for the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation by climbing Grouse Mountain 13 times and broke the record for the most summit ascents of the Grouse Grind in one day. Albrecht says the hike had its toll on him.
"I felt very hung over for a few days afterward. There is so much liquid and energy that is used, that you can't possibly ingest enough during the day."
This year, Albrecht is raising the stakes. He is doing the Grouse Grind 14 times with just 16 and a half hours to do so. An average hiker would take 21 hours to complete that many climbs, that of course if they don't take any breaks. He also hopes to raise no less than $15,000 to support women's shelters and violence prevention programs.
Albrecht is expecting to burn 15,000 calories, while tackling a 853-metre hike 14 times in a row on Monday. But, he won't be alone on his day-long quest of the Grind. Albrecht's 1,815 Twitter followers will be able to follow his every move via status updates.
