Avoid the sun to reduce risk of wrinkles and liver spots

Almost half stop tanning after learning they'd age prematurely

Amanda Wawryk/The Vancouver Sun Jun 28, 2010 07:29:31 AM

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Age might have a bit to do with those wrinkles and crows feet, but we shouldn't be underestimating the power of the sun.  A new survey suggests about half of us believe the sun and age play an equal part in the development of our age spots and wrinkles.

In today's Vancouver Sun, the Canadian Dermatology Association says we can blame repeated sun exposure for 80 to 90 per cent of changes on our skin.  Dermatologists are hoping people will realize all the damage the sun can do and are urging people to use sunscreen and put sunglasses on.

The survey shows about 40 per cent of people stop tanning altogether after learning the sun can cause us to age prematurely, but many sun-lovers refuse to come indoors, believing a tan makes them look better.
