VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - It's an up-hill battle they're willing to fight. Parents and students in an East Vancouver neighbourhood are pleading with the school board not to shut down three of their schools.
At the rally hosted this afternoon by the NDP, many parents know the Ministry of Education has put its foot down on the funding issue. The Vancouver School Board tabled its final budget over a week ago outlining possible school closures.
Shantal Northgraves, Parent Advisory Committee chair with Graham Bruce Elementary, says if trustees care about this part of the community they'll consider demands of parents and students. "People already say that this one of the most expensive cities to live in. More and more people are moving out to go somewhere else, so if you start closing down schools like this and not giving parents an option, you're going to see people moving out."
She's asking the VSB to consider closing other schools in the city that have much lower enrolment.
