VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Fruit growers here in B.C. say while they are encouraged by a multi-million dollar funding announcement for their industry -- they wanted more.
The provincial and federal governments are putting up $5 million for environmentally friendly packaging and storage as well as ``value-added'' strategies for the tree-fruit industry.
However, the B.C. Fruit Growers Association asked for $10 million in direct subsidies and organization president Joe Sardinha says some growers will be disappointed.
Fruit-tree growers have suffered heavy losses from a rising Canadian dollar and cold weather last year.
